Work Diary

In todays photograph session, I completed my third photo-shoot based on death and nature for storytelling. In my self portraits, my main focus was to keep an elegant look to contrast against the death of nature but whilst also showing a sick and twisted emotion with the dark side of the lighting and the wide eyes. I decided to keep elegance to show the upper class appearance in society whilst also keeping the dead animal, to show how we destroy nature. The dark side of the lighting also tell a different story across my face, as if I had a dark side whilst my appearance looks innocent. The positive point of this photograph was that most of the photos came out well, to something I actually wanted to represent the stories through. I believe that this photo-shoot did not actually have a negative factor to reveal.

My two selected photographs:

In this photograph, we can see a collage of nine photographs showing different dead animals whilst I posed in different positions with them. The animals shown are rabbits, a pigeon, deer's skull, pheasant and a fox. The positive point of this photograph is the colours of the background, really make me and the animals stand out nicely in an natural way, this is a positive factor because it sends the message over to the audience in a subtle way. I believe that this photograph does not have a negative factor or improvement to reveal.

In this photograph, we can see another self portrait of myself smiling while holding a dead fox up. The positive point of this photograph is the fox's positioning, this is a positive factor because the subtleness of the positioning of the fox as if it was asleep, against how it's guts are slowly pouring out, shows the audience in a nice manner a photo about death and life in an elegant manner. The negative factor of this photograph is the glove edge on the left hand side of the photograph is a distraction from the fox, this is a negative factor because the focus point on the fox is then pulled away. An improvement I would make to this photograph, would be to clone the glove away from the arm.

Further development:
For my further development, I would like to take my second selected photograph and change it into either a magazine cover about life and death in the natural world, or create it into a poster about slowing down and risking animals lives.
