Combining Faces - Work Diary

Work Diary

In today's photograph session, I decided to be creative in the studio by selecting random people in my photography class to reveal a happy face, a sad face and then a crazy face. Once this was complete, I mixed up their own emotions together in a black and white photograph to pull some weird faces. The positive point of todays photography session, was that it was a random experiment that actually went okay, this is a positive factor because this experiment can be developed upon further. The negative point of this photograph is the placement of the faces of the models, this is a negative factor because with the models heads being all directions, the photograph sections would not link so clearly together. As an improvement for this session, I will decide to be more stern with the procedure of their positioning.

My two selected photographs:

This is my first selected photograph which I shot with different photographs and edited together. In this photograph, we can see the combination of peaceful wide eyes put with a wide open mouth with the tongue sticking out. The positive point of this photograph is the eyes and the mouth, this is a positive factor because with the eyes drawing in the audience to begin with as if a gentle story was about to be told, the mouth shows the rebellion with the tongue sticking out. The negative point of this photograph is the two obvious white lines on each side of the models nose, this is a negative factor because it's a cause of distraction on the photograph. As an improvement to this photograph, I could apply either the gaussian blur to create a soft focus or use the healing tool brush to cover the white lines.

This is my second selected photograph which I shot with different photographs before combining them in the editing stage. In this photograph, we can see the first structure of the face which is the eyes, sad and closed as if they tried to hide away, whilst comparing to this, the second structure of the face which is the mouth, is shown smiling wide as if they couldn't stop laughing. The positive point of this photograph is how the skin blends in with the two different sections, this is a positive factor because this creates a realistic look to the female face which also makes it unique. The negative point of this photograph is the slight blurring on the earlobes, this is a negative factor because it shows how the photograph is edited. An improvement I would make to this photograph, would be to use the heal tool, to cover the odd blur across the earlobe.

Further development:
For my further development, I would like to select both my selected photographs and some of my originals, before cutting them apart and placing them together to make a complete face. Once I made a complete face out of all these photographs, I could use it as a physical experiment in my unit.
