Puzzle Piece - Work Diary

Work Diary

In today's photograph session, I decided to take my photographs in the studio for a more focus effect on my self portraits. In these self portraits I had half of my face painted as jigsaw pieces to show the story of someone's fantasy of being pieced together perfectly like a puzzle. The colours and glitter are also shown to reveal the child hood memories. The positive outcome of this photo-shoot is everything, including the black background, this all come out as a positive outcome because the paint is shown clearly on the camera, the puzzle pieces look realistic and my self portraits really make my own eyes stand out with out my hair being flown about everywhere. I believe that this photo-shoot did not have a negative factor or improvement to reveal.

My two selected photographs:

This first selected photographs is one of my straight prints from this shoot. In this photograph you can see my self portrait, with my hair smoothed right back, my eyes standing out as the focus point and my hand covering the un-decorated half of my face whilst the left hand side is covered in jigsaw pieces. The background is also shown to be completely black. The positive point of this photograph is the chosen background and lighting effect, this is a positive factor because it makes me as the model really stand out with out any distractions in the photograph. I believe that this photograph does not have a negative factor or improvement to reveal.

This is my second selected photograph. In this computer experiment, we can see another self portrait with the jigsaw puzzle effect, but this time the puzzle pieces look like they're actually coming apart and floating away from my face. This is a positive point of this photograph, is that the puzzle pieces coming out of the skin, creates an allusion for the audience, this is a positive factor because the audience can then become mainly focused on the way this photo turned out to look like this. The negative point of this photograph is that the black line covers over onto another jigsaw piece, this is a negative factor because it becomes a focus point and shows the audience that the photo was actually photoshopped. As an improvement, I would like to do the same thing on this photograph again, but this time more carefully.

Further development:
For my further development, I would like to choose the first selected photograph for a physical experiment, in this experiment, I would only cut out certain jigsaw puzzle pieces.
